3 Years On Campus Undergraduate Degree

Leicester’s School of Business has an international reputation for being at the forefront of innovation in economic science, and you will be among the first to study at our new £16 million Brookfield campus. This course will prepare you for a career in the business and financial sectors, including business management and financial management.

  • You will develop your understanding of modern economic analysis and ideas, and of their relevance to a variety of business contexts and decision-making situations. This course combines a solid grounding in both economics, management and business studies-related topics, helping you to gain an awareness of the interconnection between the business and general economic environments.
  • We will also foster your analytical abilities and critical appraisal skills, which are particularly useful transferable skills for graduate employment. You will also gain important quantitative skills, as well as communication and IT skills.
  • An optional year studying abroad or undertaking an industry placement will enhance your skills and build your professional network. Your time with us will also equip you with the research techniques that are vital to postgraduate study.
  • In addition all of our economics degrees are accredited by CIMA, the professional body of management accountants.
  • The close relationship between research and teaching is one of the great advantages of studying with us, and we welcome talented students from countries all over the world. Our staff are active researchers of international renown, and have acted as advisers and consultants to many international and national organisations, including the European Central Bank, the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the Central Bank of Poland, the Central Bank of Greece and a number of UK Government departments.

  • Financial Economics and Banking BSc
  • This means that you have the option to switch to any of these courses at the end of your first year.

Scholarship

  • Citizens of Change 100 Scholarship - Anyone holding an offer of a place at Leicester - 50% fee reduction in first year
  • Science and Engineering International Merit Scholarship - International-fee-paying students applying for an undergraduate degree in the University of Leicester College of Science and Engineering - £3,000 or £5,000 per year
  • Family Loyalty Discount - Any child, sibling or spouse of a Leicester student or graduate - 10% fee discount
  • Media, Communications and Sociology International Merit Scholarship - International-fee-paying students applying for an undergraduate degree in the University of Leicester School of Media, Communications and Sociology - £3,000 or £5,000 per year
  • Music scholarships - Talented musicians/singers at Grade 6 or above - £500
  • Sports scholarships - Students who compete at regional, national or international level - Facilities, coaching and financial support
  • ULSB International Merit Scholarship - Students applying for a degree in the University of Leicester School of Business, starting September 2022 or later - £3,000 per year

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements

  • A/AS-levels: ABB. Two AS-levels considered in place of one A-level. General Studies or Critical Thinking not included. Own language may be considered.
  • EPQ with A-levels: BBB EPQ at grade B.
  • Access to HE Diploma: Pass relevant Diploma with 45 credits at Level 3, including 30 credits at Distinction.
  • GCSE: Grade B (5) in Mathematics and Grade C (4) in English Language
  • International Baccalaureate: Pass Full Diploma with 30 points, including a minimum of grade 5 in SL Maths or 6 in SL Maths Studies/Application and Interpretations or 4 in HL Maths if not held at GCSE.
  • BTEC Extended National Diploma: DDD in Business diploma with strong GCSE background including Mathematics at grade B (5) and English Language at grade C (4).
  • Other national and international qualifications considered.
  • Second Year Entry is not possible on this course.

Selection Process

  • When considering your application, we will look for evidence that you will be able to fulfil the objectives of the course and achieve the standards required. We will take into account a range of factors including previous exam results.
  • Applicants are not normally interviewed. If you receive an offer you will be invited to visit the School of Business.

English Language Requirements

  • IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.

  • Contemporary Issues in Economics, Finance and Business (year-long module)

Four of our economics courses share the exact same first year. This means that you can switch to any of these degrees at the end of your first year:

  • Economics BSc
  • Economics and Accounting BSc
  • Financial Economics and Banking BSc
  • It is not possible to switch to either our BSc Economics and Econometrics or BSc Financial Economics and Econometrics courses as these have a different first year. The BSc Business Economics offers a solid grounding in quantitative methods and includes econometrics modules that cover material that would sufficiently prepare you for master's level study in economics or finance.

Year in Industry or Abroad (optional)

  • On a ULSB course you have the option of spending your third year gaining work experience on an industry placement or studying abroad at one of our partner institutions. Alternatively you can continue studying and complete your degree in three years.
