  • On this course, you will be encouraged to reflect on your current leadership and management abilities and develop new skills to enhance your practice.
  • This popular aspect within the field of education explores and addresses current issues that exist in national and international education. You will examine both individual and organisational learning strategies and how these link to human resource protocols, student engagement and the fostering of shared goals. There is also a focus on learning about existing leadership frameworks and theoretical approaches within an educational context.

Throughout this course, you will explore a broad range of topics designed to reflect the evolving education sector, including:

  • The principles that underpin individual and organisational learning
  • The theory and practice of leadership and management within education and staff development
  • How to apply research and literature within a practical setting
  • Different approaches to education and teaching within a variety of global contexts
  • The individual and organisational transfer of learning, including the application of information, strategies, and skills
  • Examine the use of learning analytics to support professionals in leadership roles
  • You will also have the opportunity to develop a focused piece of independent research into an area of education, training or staff development that is of personal interest to you.

Entry Requirements

  • We know that many people from non-traditional backgrounds succeed on our courses! That’s why we offer two different entry routes, taking into account your prior work experience and relevant qualifications. You will also need to meet our English language requirements.
  • Additionally, you will need to pass your first assignment set within your two week induction period of the course in order to continue your studies.

Academic entry route

  • In order to satisfy the academic entry route requirements for our MSc Leadership and Management in Education, you must have the following qualifications as a minimum:
  • An undergraduate degree from an approved institution, equivalent to a UK Honours degree, or a relevant professional qualification

Work experience entry route

  • In order to satisfy the work experience entry route requirements for our MSc Leadership and Management in Education, you must meet the following criteria:
  • At least two years’ experience in a relevant field supported by an appropriate reference

English language requirements

  • As our courses are delivered in English, a high proficiency with English is required. If English is not your first language, your English ability should be equivalent to an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5. Don’t worry if you don’t hold an IELTS or equivalent qualification – we offer a free online English test to assess your proficiency.
  • You don’t need to prove your English ability if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree
  • The MSc Leadership and Management in Education is made up of the following modules and, upon completion, is equal to a total of 180 credits at Level 7.

  • Introduction to Leadership and Management in Education (20 credits)
  • Supporting Professional Development and Organisational Learning Strategy (20 credits)
  • Responding to Learning Contingency (10 credits)
  • Application of Research and Literature in Practice (20 credits)
  • Learning Analytics for Leadership (10 credits)
  • Creating Learning Communities (10 credits)
  • Social Justice in Global Education (20 credits)
  • Research Methods (20 credits)
  • Dissertation (40 credits)

* These modules are core and must be passed in order to achieve the award.
