Do you want to become an educational leader or training manager? Are you interested in learning about different management frameworks and their practical application? Then our PG Dip Leadership and Management in Education* might be the course for you.
  • Through the course, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your current approach to teaching, staff development or training and identify areas for improvement. You will also be able to explore current issues within education on both a local and international scale and learn about different theory used to address this.
  • On completion of this course, you will leave with an in-depth knowledge of different leadership strategies and educational decision-making approaches. These are both highly valued qualities that will serve you well if your career goal is to work within an educational leadership or organisational management position.

Throughout this course, you’ll study a broad range of topics underpinned by the latest educational theories and frameworks, including:

  • An introductory overview of the various principles and practices that help to support both individual and organisational learning
  • The fundamental concepts required to build an online learning community
  • The practical application of various contemporary educational research and theory
  • An overview of various educational and teaching approaches from across the globe
  • Best practice approach relating to the transfer of learning to both individuals, student classrooms and organisational settings
  • Once you have completed our PG Dip Leadership and Management in Education you have the option to progress onto our MSc Leadership and Management in Education.

*Please note that this degree will not provide you with a teaching qualification and that additional qualified teacher status is required to allow you to teach in the UK.

  • We know that many people from non-traditional backgrounds would succeed on our courses! That’s why we offer two different entry routes, taking into account your prior work experience and relevant qualifications. You will also need to meet our English language requirements.
  • Additionally, you will need to pass your first assignment set within your two week induction period of the course in order to continue your studies.

Academic entry route
In order to satisfy the academic entry route requirements for our PG Dip Leadership and Management in Education, you must have the following qualifications as a minimum:

  • An undergraduate degree from an approved institution, equivalent to a UK Honours degree, or a relevant professional qualification

Work experience entry route
In order to satisfy the work experience entry route requirements for our PG Dip Leadership and Management in Education, you must meet the following criteria:

  • At least two years’ experience in a relevant field supported by an appropriate reference

English language requirements

  • As our courses are delivered in English, a high proficiency in English is required. If English is not your first language, your English ability should be equivalent to an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5. Don’t worry if you don’t hold an IELTS or equivalent qualification – we offer a free online English test to assess your proficiency.
  • You don’t need to prove your English ability if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree
  • The PG Dip Leadership and Management in Education is made up of the following modules and, upon completion, is equal to a total of 120 credits at Level 7.

Level 7 modules:

  • Principles of Learning (10 credits)
  • Introduction to Leadership and Management in Education (20 credits)
  • Supporting Professional Development and Organisational Learning Strategy (20 credits)
  • Responding to Learning Contingency (10 credits)
  • Application of Research and Literature in Practice (20 credits)
  • Learning Analytics for Leadership (10 credits)
  • Creating Learning Communities (10 credits)
  • Social Justice in Global Education (20 credits)
  • Upon completion of your PG Dip Leadership and Management in Education, we offer the opportunity to progress on to study for a MSc Leadership and Management in Education (180 credits).

*This module is core and must be passed in order to achieve the award.

  • When paying for your undergraduate or postgraduate course up-front, we’ll offer you a discount of 10% for students starting their course in the 2020-21 academic year, and 5% for students starting their course in the 2021-22 academic year. 

Alumni discount 

  • If you are a previous graduate with the University of Essex or University of Essex Online, we’ll award you a 10% alumni discount on your postgraduate tuition fees when you continue your studies to Masters level. This is only applicable to students studying online and does not apply to students studying on campus.
  • The Alumni discount cannot be used in combination with the International scholarship. 

Scholarships

  • International scholarship (all courses) International students residing in specific regions outside of the UK may be eligible for a partial scholarship for our undergraduate and postgraduate online courses.
