Our Bioprocess Engineering MSc degree is an innovative course that has been developed to equip you with advanced and up-to-date knowledge in the bioprocessing field.
  • The focus is on providing you with a broad understanding of modern bioprocesses used in production, design and research. It covers the core biochemical engineering topics in depth and integrates all practical aspects relevant to bioprocess design and operation through the novel toolbox modules - project management; bioprocess safety; intellectual property; environmental, health and safety risks; sustainability - to produce well-rounded and sought after bioprocess engineers with a detailed insight into industrially relevant processes in biopharma and food industries and their integration.
  • Your practical sessions will be based in the facilities of the Advanced Bioprocessing Centre where you’ll have access to four dedicated laboratories including a purpose-built, explosion-proof, pilot-scale lab. The latest industry standard engineering software packages are available for you to use in the computing facility.
  • Our bioprocess engineering course has been developed in conjunction with accreditation guidelines of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE). It is studied full-time over one year.

UK entry requirements

  • 2:2 (or above) UK Honours degree, or an equivalent internationally recognised qualification, in an engineering, appropriate science or technology subject. Other qualifications with relevant work experience will be assessed on an individual basis.
  • Entry criteria are subject to review and change each academic year.

EU and International entry requirements

  • If you require a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK, you must prove knowledge of the English language so that we can issue you a Certificate of Acceptance for Study (CAS). To do this, you will need an IELTS for UKVI or Trinity SELT test pass gained from a test centre approved by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) and on the Secure English Language Testing (SELT) list. This must have been taken and passed within two years from the date the CAS is made.

English language requirements

  • IELTS: 6 (min 5.5 in all areas)
  • Pearson: 59 (59 in all sub scores)
  • BrunELT: 58% (min 55% in all areas)
  • TOEFL: 79 (min R18, L17, S20, W17)
  • You’ll take the taught modules in the first two terms and then move on to your dissertation. The dissertation will be an industrially relevant, interdisciplinary bioprocess design project requiring about four months of full-time effort.
  • This course can be studied 1 year full-time, starting in September.
