Mechanical Engineering is one of the largest, oldest and broadest branches of Engineering. It has remained in the highest demand and is predicted to continue to grow as a profession. The total number of mechanical engineering jobs is projected to grow by 16% over the next decade in the US.

At Amity University Dubai, students study both the fundamentals of mechanical engineering as well as gaining practical knowledge of concepts and their applications in our state-of-the-art laboratories, which are equipped with the latest versions of the machinery used throughout the industry.

According to Engineering UK’s report, ‘The State of Engineering 2015’, the UK will need to have recruited 1.82 million people with mechanical engineering skills from 2012 – 2022, and with only 100 000 people being recruited a year, the sector is falling far short. Students and faculty members are involved in various professional society activities associated with Mechanical Engineering.

The departments are now successfully affiliated to five professional societies:

  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
  • ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers)
  • SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers)
  • Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE)
  • Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)

The Mechanical Engineering workshop has five different sections, namely the Machines shop, Welding shop, Foundry shop, Sheet metal shop and Fitting shop. Amity students use the lab to gain expertise in the usage of machines, equipment, tools and measuring instruments.

The Machine shop includes lathe machines, a radial drilling machine, milling machine, shaping machine, grinding machine and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Lathe.

The Welding shop has Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding, Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding, Oxy-Acetylene gas welding and Arc Welding.

All the latest tools and equipment required for mould preparation for foundry, sheet metal work and fitting work are available in the workshop.
You’ll also find experimental setups for the Engineering Mechanics Lab to study the principles of mechanics.

Our Heat Transfer laboratory provides fundamental and industrial knowledge about modes of heat transfer, like conduction, convection and radiation, and their applications.

Kinematics of machine lab provides the practical knowledge about various mechanisms and their applications. Student will go explore various experiments of different mechanism like cam-follower mechanism, gears and gear train.
