Our LLB (Hons) Law with Psychology is the only 100% online and part-time programme with no requirement to travel to assessment centres or complete timed examinations.
  • It is a qualifying law degree (QLD) recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) which will enable you to complete the academic stage of legal education and set you on the route to practising law professionally.
  • This comprehensive degree will allow you to explore psychology alongside your legal studies which could open up your career opportunities. So this programme is ideal if you’re considering a legal career with psychological aspects or a psychology career that requires understanding the law.

You’ll delve into legal and psychological topics such as:

  • Tortious liability, negligence and duty of care
  • The milestones in human development throughout their lifespan
  • Criminal law, burden of proof and proposal for reform
  • The social factors that impact on individuals’ lives
  • Towards the end of your studies you will complete a detailed research project on a topic of interest within the scope of your degree. By conducting your own research and collating appropriate resources, you will be able to produce a thorough insight into your chosen area.

  • We know that many people from non-traditional backgrounds would succeed on our courses! That’s why we offer two different entry routes, taking into account your prior work experience and relevant qualifications. You will also need to meet our English language requirements.
  • Additionally, you will need to pass your first assignment set within the first three weeks of the course in order to continue with your studies.

Academic entry route

In order to satisfy the academic entry route requirements for our LLB (Hons) Law with Psychology, you must have the following qualifications as a minimum:

  • three A-levels or equivalent

Work experience entry route
In order to satisfy the work experience entry route requirements for our LLB (Hons) Law with Psychology, you must meet the following criteria:

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above, or equivalent.
  • three years’ relevant work experience

English language requirements

  • As our courses are delivered in English, a high proficiency with English is required. If English is not your first language, your English ability should be equivalent to an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0. Don’t worry if you don’t hold an IELTS or equivalent qualification – we offer a free online English test to assess your proficiency.
  • You don’t need to prove your English ability if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree
  • The LLB (Hons) Law with Psychology is made up of the following modules and, upon completion, is equal to a total of 360 credits.

Level 4 modules:

  • Legal Skills and Context (30 credits)*
  • Criminal Law (30 credits)
  • Public Law (30 credits)
  • Introduction to Social Psychology (15 credits)

One optional module:

  • Introduction to Cognitive Psychology (15 credits)
  • Personality and Intelligence (15 credits)
  • Level 5 modules:
  • Contract Law (30 credits)
  • Law of Tort (30 credits)
  • Land Law (30 credits)
  • Psychological Development through the Lifespan (15 credits)

One optional module:

  • Biological Psychology (15 credits)
  • Reasoning and Decision-Making (15 credits)
  • Forensic Psychology (15 credits)

Level 6 modules:

  • European Union Law (15 credits)
  • Equity and Trusts (15 credits)
  • Wills and the Administration of Estates (15 credits)
  • Critical Social Psychology (15 credits)

Optional modules worth 60 credits:

  • Final Year Research Project (30 credits)
  • Developmental Science (15 credits)
  • Occupational Psychology (15 credits)
  • Investigative Psychology (15 credits)
  • Clinical and Counselling Psychology (15 credits)


* These modules are core and must be passed in order to achieve the award.

  • These modules are compulsory and must be passed in order to achieve a Qualifying Law Degree.
  • Once chosen, the optional module will become compulsory for the purposes of the rules of assessment.
  • Full tuition fee: £18,500 (2020-21 and 2021-22)
  • Monthly tuition fee: £385 

Full payment discount

  • When paying for your undergraduate or postgraduate course up-front, we’ll offer you a discount of 10% for students starting their course in the 2020-21 academic year, and 5% for students starting their course in the 2021-22 academic year.

Alumni discount

  • If you are a previous graduate with the University of Essex or University of Essex Online, we’ll award you a 10% alumni discount on your postgraduate tuition fees when you continue your studies to Masters level.
  • This is only applicable to students studying online and does not apply to students studying on campus.
  • The Alumni discount cannot be used in combination with the International scholarship.
