Program Overview

This program provides a comprehensive education in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, covering the foundational aspects of the speech and hearing mechanisms, communication, and psychology. Students will delve into diagnostic and rehabilitative techniques for various disorders, including hearing impairments and speech impediments, while also learning about assistive devices and related medical conditions. 1 Foundational Phase (Semesters I & II)

Anatomy and Physiology of the speech and hearing mechanisms.
Basics of human communication and linguistics.
Understanding sound waves and the working of diagnostic equipment.
General psychology related to speech and hearing.

2 Diagnostic & Rehabilitative Phase (Semesters III to VI)

Diagnostic Audiology (Tests), Pediatric Audiology, and Rehabilitative Audiology.
Articulation and Phonological Disorders, Voice Disorders, Fluency Disorders (Stuttering), and Neurological Language Disorders.
Study of hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices.
Medical aspects of ear, nose, and throat diseases.

3 Clinical Internship (Semesters VII & VIII)

The final year is a 10-month to 1-year mandatory internship at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal and other clinical postings.
Hands-on experience in diagnosing patients and conducting therapy sessions.
Exposure to specialized units like the Voice Clinic, Dysphagia (swallowing) Clinic, and Neonatal Hearing Screening unit.
