Course Overview

You’ll explore up-to-the-minute fields including smart power, instrumentation, process control, communications and remote sensing. You’ll design, build and test prototypes in our embedded systems lab, robotics lab and digital manufacturing lab. And you’ll get the chance to spend a year on placement in industry. That way, you’ll gain key skills that employers are looking for: analysis, design and business awareness. Along the way, you’ll have full support from our award-winning careers team.

But it’s not all study and work. There are lots of extra-curricular activities for you to get involved with as well. Join our thriving Robotics Society, and become part of our Hull Electric Racing Team (HERT). As a member of HERT, you’ll help to build a single seater racing car and compete against other students at Silverstone.

As well as our three-year course, we offer four- and five-year options with the chance to transfer anytime in your degree. Choose from a built-in placement year or an integrated Masters (MEng) – or both. And like all our engineering courses, Electrical and Electronic Engineering shares a common first year. That means you can switch degrees in second year if you want to choose a different pathway.

This BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Foundation Year program provides a comprehensive pathway into the field. The foundation year equips students with essential mathematical and scientific skills, alongside preparation for higher education learning. Subsequent years delve into core engineering principles, including mathematics, programming, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics. Students will explore advanced topics such as control engineering, analogue and digital electronics, electrical machines, and signal processing, culminating in specialized areas like smart grids, embedded systems, machine learning, and robotic systems. The program emphasizes practical application through design challenges and an individual project.
