The Forest Technology undergraduate diploma at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) is designed for individuals passionate about environmental stewardship and the sustainable management of Alberta's vital forest resources. You will explore modern forestry practices, encompassing high-tech field-oriented careers in reclamation, fire management, ecosystem analysis, and reforestation. This program prepares you to address contemporary challenges in forest and land management, equipping you with the knowledge to conduct wildfire operations, generate vegetation inventories, and apply relevant policy and legislation in a hands-on, practical environment.
Studied full-time on campus over two years, your learning experience will be deeply immersive, including five weeks at NAIT’s Kidney Lake camp for foundational skills in wildfire suppression, plant identification, and forest measurements. In your second year, field training near Hinton will emphasize reforestation, operational planning, and sustainable harvesting using the latest technology, including GIS and GPS. You will graduate with practical experience in real-world environmental management, prepared for careers protecting Alberta’s natural landscapes and ensuring their sustainable use for future generations.
