The geosciences major prepares students to become professional scientists capable of conducting research in terrestrial and marine geologic environments. Students majoring in geosciences gain knowledge regarding fundamental concepts of Earth systems history, structures, materials, and processes, as well as research methods employed by geoscientists. In addition, geoscience students develop scientific communication skills. All graduates are expected to be able to speak professionally and write effective scientific reports.

This Bachelor of Science in Geosciences program provides a comprehensive foundation in Earth sciences, progressing from introductory topics to advanced specializations. Students will explore geological oceanography, earth materials, and fundamental chemistry in their first year, followed by earth systems history, structure, calculus, and statistics as sophomores. The curriculum further delves into marine stratigraphy, coastal geology, and physics during the junior year, culminating in senior-level studies of marine geochemistry, hydrology, paleontology, and a comprehensive examination.
