As a student in Northern Alberta Institute of Technology’s (NAIT) Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) undergraduate diploma program, you will develop the essential skills to collect patient samples and perform critical analyses of blood, body fluids, and tissues. This program is designed for individuals interested in the scientific underpinnings of disease diagnosis and treatment, preparing you for a vital role in healthcare. You will delve into specialized subjects including microbiology, transfusion science, hematology, clinical chemistry, and histotechnology, gaining a comprehensive understanding of laboratory diagnostics.
This full-time, on-campus program spans two years, beginning with 49 weeks of intensive classroom instruction and practical laboratory sessions at NAIT. You will then transition to Phase II, completing 38 weeks of valuable Work Integrated Learning (WIL) through clinical placements at affiliated laboratories across Alberta. During these placements, you will work alongside registered medical laboratory technologists, applying your knowledge and honing your professional skills. Upon graduation, you will be well-prepared to pursue national certification and embark on a career in hospital, private, or research laboratories.
