The Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery (H.Dip.) at Trinity College Dublin is designed for registered nurses seeking to transition into a specialized and highly rewarding career in midwifery. You will gain the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to become a competent, analytical, and reflective practitioner, ready to provide compassionate care to women, their babies, and families throughout the childbirth continuum. This program addresses the critical need for skilled midwives by fostering evidence-based practice and a deep understanding of reproductive health. You will be prepared to meet the evolving demands of maternal and infant care in Ireland and beyond.
This intensive, full-time, on-campus program is structured over approximately 18 months, blending 26 weeks of classroom learning with 52 weeks of essential clinical practice. You will work alongside experienced professionals at The Coombe Hospital or The Rotunda Hospital, gaining hands-on experience through diverse placements. Your learning will be assessed through a variety of methods, including examinations, assignments, and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs). Upon graduation, you will be equipped to provide autonomous, safe midwifery care, promote health and wellbeing, and make informed decisions, opening pathways to practice as a registered midwife.
