The Sustainability Science (MS) at Montclair State University is designed for ambitious postgraduate students aiming to address the complex environmental and societal challenges of our time. You will explore the critical issues surrounding society's transition to global sustainability, focusing on the sustainable use of natural resources, social learning, and the vital science-policy interface. This Master of Science degree equips you with the systems science perspective needed to understand and predict the consequences of human actions on our planet's life support systems, preparing you for impactful leadership roles.
This full-time, on-campus programme is structured over four semesters, integrating core courses in sustainability science, environmental economics, and environmental research methods. You will engage in a colloquium to discuss current environmental management issues and select 15 credits of major electives tailored to your interests. The curriculum culminates in a significant research project or a Master's thesis, providing you with hands-on experience. You will graduate with advanced research and analytical skills, ready to pursue careers in environmental consulting, policy analysis, conservation, or further academic study.
